Act: Elderly, near blind woman mugged in street

CANBERRA, Dec 17 AAP - An elderly woman, partially-sighted and carrying a white cane,
was mugged in a suburban Canberra street this afternoon.

Police said the woman, who is in her 80s, was attacked by a man thought to be about 18 years old.

She had been walking home from the shops in the northern suburb of Jamison when the
man struck her on the shoulder and grabbed her handbag.

He leapt into a small blue vehicle being driven by another person and fled.

The bag-snatcher was described as about 175cm tall, of solid build, and wearing dark
glasses and a baseball cap with yellow colouring on it.
