Fed: Fiji union leader in Aust for talks with ACTU

Fiji trade union leader FELIX ANTHONY is to meet ACTU president SHARAN BURROW in Melbourne
tomorrow to discuss developments in his embattled Pacific nation.

Mr ANTHONY has been a leading figure in the coordination of Fijian and international
resistance and protest against GEORGE SPEIGHT'S terrorist overthrow of the democratically
elected Fijian government.

An ACTU spokesman says Mr ANTHONY is in Australia for talks with Australian unions
which implemented transport and communications bans on Fiji during the hostage crisis.

The spokesman says Mr ANTHONY, who was briefly detained by pro-nationalist rebels last
week, and the ACTU will discuss the continuing role for Australian unions in supporting
the restoration of democracy in Fiji.
